The State Hydrographic Service of Ukraine of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine issued a publication «Navigational Hydrometeorology».

The publication is intended for cadets and students of maritime educational institutions of Ukraine with specialization in oceanography, hydrometeorology, hydrography, marine navigation, and may also be of use for a wide range of professionals of the maritime field.

The publication considers the following issues on the up-to-date level: history of meteorology development, properties of atmosphere and water, atmospheric phenomena, hydrometeorological measurements with respect to environmental parameters determination, circulation of air and sea masses, sea level fluctuations, meteorological facsimile and electronic charts, principles of forecasts, peculiarities of meteorological measurements on rivers.

The publication is intended for cadets and students of maritime educational institutions of Ukraine with specialization in oceanography, hydrometeorology, hydrography, marine navigation, and may also be of use for a wide range of professionals of the maritime field.

  • oceanography as a science,

«Danube River Pilot. Kiliiske Mouth Delta to the Prut River Mouth» No. 103

Pilot of the Danube River, Ukrainian part, is a demonstrative color publication which describes the section of the Lower Danube Mouth to the Prut River Mouth. The description includes navigational hydrographic and hydrometeorological reviews, other useful information.


«Dnipro River Pilot» No. 105

This first edition of the Dnipro River Pilot is prepared and published by the State Hydrographic Service of Ukraine. It is an original edition which has never been before in river navigational practice. This pilot book contains the characteristics of the Dnipro River within the Ukrainian territory with its artificial cascade of water reservoirs and navigable tributaries, such as the Prypiat and Samara Rivers. The book is divided into sections; each section has its own physiographic, climatic and hydrologic characteristics, navigational and hydrographical navigation conditions.This publication gives general information and characteristics of the Dnipro River reservoir cascade, navigable waterway dimensions and hydraulic structures of hydroengineering complexes, levels and volumes of the Dnipro River reservoirs, as well as sailing and hydrometeorological information, fixed and floating aids to navigation. The navigational and hydrographic overviews are supplemented with colour schemes of the Dnipro River sections and ports, pictures of aids to navigation, bridges and hydraulic structures, reference information.
For the user’s convenience this publication begins with the Dniprovskyi Firth of the Black Sea to the point where the Sozh River inflows (Belarus border). Kilometres are measured in the same direction along a navigable waterway. The starting point (kilometre zero) is marked in the «Navigational River Chart of the Nyzhnii Dnipro from Kakhovska Hydroelectric Power Station to the Mouth» No. 3528 at the entrance to the Rvach River.

This pilot should be used together with the navigational river charts of the Dnipro River:

«Lights and Beacons of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. Ukrainian Coast» No. 201

The Publication contains information about visual and sound aids to navigation (AtoN) located on the Ukrainian coast and within coastal waters of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

The buoyage system is established in the Black Sea — Sea of Azov Region under the jurisdiction of Ukraine that conforms with the IALA System Region A (Red to port) that is described in General Provisions of the Publication, «IALA Guideline on Aids to Navigation», as well as in «Description of Maritime Buoyage System in Ukrainian Waters. IALA System. Region A (Red to port)» No.903 and «Maritime Buoyage System in Ukrainian Waters. IALA System – Region A» No.904.

Description of lights and beacons includes information about all authorized AtoN except pillars.

Number Correspondence Table for international and Ukrainian AtoN is placed at the end of this Publication.

Publication contains information about visual aids to navigation (AtoN) of the Danube River from the Kiliiske Mouth Delta to the Prut River Mouth. It includes information about all authorized Ukrainian and Rumanian AtoN except pillars.


«Regime of Navigation in Ukrainian Waters of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov» (Summary description) No. 402

Publication covers order and navigation rules prescribed for Ukrainian marine waters to regulate vessel traffic, presents dangerous, restricted or regime areas, rules for entering and staying within ports.

Summary description of navigation regime covers Ukrainian marine waters but some of the recommended tracks, fairways, marine restricted areas out of limits of the Maritime Region of Ukraine are charted solidly and marked by symbol (*). The description consists of information concerning the former mine danger areas open for navigation, fairways, marine restricted areas, traffic separation schemes, places of mooring as well as other information regulating vessel traffic.

Publication completes Pilots and nautical charts of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov in so far as they relate to navigation regime in certain areas of our waters which was established taking into account postwar mine danger and some navigation restrictions.

«Oceanographic Atlas of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov» No. 601

The Oceanologic Centre with the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and State Hydrographic Service of Ukraine with the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine present the "Oceanographic Atlas of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov". Atlas is the first in Ukraine complex charting edition of this sort and it is an important milestone in the decades-long creative cooperation of Ukrainian oceanologists, hydrographers and cartographers.

The "Oceanographic Atlas" contains complex scientific information on the state of the environment and the main peculiarities of the Black and Azov Seas. Its charts reproduce in great detail the oceanologic, climatic, hydrographic and other characteristics of these seas.

The "Oceanographic Atlas of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov" will contribute to information support provision for marine economic activity and scientific research in this region and management decisions taken by administrations of various levels, and will also be helpful for organisation heads, practitioners, scientists, teachers and students.

Catalogue «Nautical Charts and Publications» No. 701

Catalogue is a reference edition that contains information about nautical charts (NC), books and nautical publications issued by the State Hydrographic Service of Ukraine.

The Catalogue consists of three sections, which are “Charts”, “Nautical publications” and “Technical documentation blanks”.

Numerical indices of updated charts and books arranged in increasing order precede section “Charts”. Column «Year of issue» in the numerical index indicates the year of a chart issue from which all the following issues of this chart are applicable for navigation purposes.

The Catalogue contains data about nautical charts (NC), inland waterway charts (IWC), electronic nautical charts (ENC) and the system of electronic chart cells.

Electronic nautical charts comply with S-57 Standard of the International Hydrographic Organization and electronic inland waterway navigational charts comply with Inland ECDIS Standard.

ENC division into sheets reflects sheets of the corresponding paper nautical chats.

«Navigational-Hydrographic Dictionary»

4,000 most widely used terms concerning hydrography, navigation and adjacent sciences in English, Ukrainian and Russian are arranged in the Dictionary.

Brief explanations included in the Dictionary improve information content and extend scope of use.

Navigational-Hydrographic Dictionary is intended to serve purposes of specialists involved in solving the problems concerning maintenance of navigation, as well as it will be useful for professors and students of professional educational institutions. Dictionary is source of valuable information for translators who are not specialists in the field.

The Publication «IALA Guideline on Aids to Navigation» is intended for mariners and specialists on Aids to Navigation, Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and other devices.
